Yes, as Newsweek reported in 1996. There was an incident that took advantage of the 3-hour time difference between the East and West Coasts - basically, accomplished SAT takers in NY or wherever back East would take the test, memorize the answer choices and send them in code (the cheating ring used specially inscribed pencils with the choices written on the barrels of the pencils) to students in California, Oregon, Washington, etc. Here’s the link to the article:
