Standardized Test?

Tough class?

No problem.

Coronavirus? Shmoronavirus! I'd be thrilled to help you use time off from school to prepare for the SAT, ACT, other standardized tests, or just to keep up on your math, English, history, or other high school subjects!
I tutor for most standardized tests- the SAT, ACT, GRE, SSAT, ISEE, HSPT, LSAT, GMAT, and more! I can tutor for grade school, high school, college, and law school! Need some other tutoring? Just ask!

RATES:

My rates are considerably less than what others with less experience charge for tutoring.  I determine my rate on factors including the distance I must travel, the difficulty of the work, and how many hours in total are involved. Contact me, and I'll give you a quote. You'll be glad you did!

I also offer special small-group rates. If you'd like to save a little money, without sacrificing individualized attention, this may be the choice for you! Just get a small group of students together, set up a meeting time, and we're ready to roll!

SAT PREP!

Interested in an SAT Prep Course?  Would you like NOT to be part of some huge class where you're treated more like a commodity than a person? Why not work with me? SAT Prep is my specialty. I've tutored for the SAT since 2002, and have taught SAT prep classes (verbal and math) for two SAT prep courses.  I'll gladly meet you at your home, a library, a coffee shop, or wherever you like.

I focus on the real information you need to know, both the substantive information (you know, the actual math, grammar, vocabulary, and reading skills), and teach you the test-taking tricks without focusing WAY TOO MUCH on the tricks as some courses, that shall remain nameless, do. I don't know what they expect you to do. What the heck are you going to do when you deal with problems that aren't multiple choice? What will you do when you just NEED TO KNOW THE INFORMATION? I'd rather just teach you how to do the problems the right way, then resort to "test tricks" as a supplement to, not a substitute for, actual subject knowledge. Trying to "cheat" your way through life doesn't work and makes you look like a jerk when you fail. So don't be a schmo - go with a pro!

But wait - there's more! There's always the opportunity to obtain additional personal tutoring if necessary, even in non-SAT subjects, at a reasonable cost.

Are You a Foreign Student Looking to Attend College in the U.S.? Or Just Not in Northern California?

Are you located outside the Bay Area? I can set up online tutoring via SKYPE or Google Hangouts I've worked with students in Thailand, China, Houston, and Seattle. I'm very interested in working with students from the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and other foreign countries.  Email me at john@johnlinneball.com or call me at (415) 986-7355 or  (408) 780-8378 [that's (408) 780-TEST) ] if you're interested.

NEW- You can book me online through PocketSuite - click here.

Discount!
I'm offering 10% off my already-low price when you prepay for 20 hours worth of tutoring sessions. That's 10 typical two-hour sessions, which is usually a little more than two months' worth of once-a-week sessions. That's a really typical amount of tutoring time to really sharpen your test-taking technique and raise your test scores. You'd be getting much more time and individual attention than many other services would give you for a higher price.

Not sure you want to commit? No problem. Just pay my normal hourly rate for the hours you use. I'll gladly do one session (up to two hours) at my regular rate, and then deduct the money you've paid me from the discounted rate if you then choose to purchase a 20-hour package.

Payment Methods I Accept
I accept cash, check or money order, as well as Venmo or PayPal payments, payable at or before the time I provide of tutoring. I do not accept third-party checks.  I also accept credit cards.  I am charged a fee for accepting PayPal merchant payments, and also for accepting credit cards, so I have to add a fee to cover the cost of accepting payment by credit card or PayPal. But hey - Venmo is free! Since I am already charging a low rate, I can’t absorb the cost of credit card processing fees. I will add a $3.00 surcharge for credit card or Paypal payments. So it's best to pay by check or in cash.

NEW - You can pay when you book me online through PocketSuite (a 3% surcharge will still apply to your credit card) - click here.

For electronic payments, I prefer Venmo ( http://venmo.com ), which lets you send me debit card payments for free! It's a good way to avoid paying credit card processing fees, without having to use cash or a check. (From what I've read on the site, Venmo will also let you use a credit card, but it will charge you 3 percent per transaction).

A Note on The First Test Prep Session (Please Read This Before Hiring Me!):

The first session is almost always going to be a “diagnostic” session. What I mean is that I will give the student a practice test (usually labeled the “diagnostic” test in whatever test prep book I’m using) to determine what his or her weaknesses are, so we can work on them. I will usually have the student do several problems, stop him or her, review the answers with the student, and make notes as to what the student knows and doesn’t know, so I know what to focus on in future sessions.

That DOES NOT mean “all I do is have students do problems and then give them the answers,” even if it appears that way in the first session. First, I always give explanations and examples that aren’t in the book, and second, I will teach concepts the student doesn’t understand well, but I cannot perform either of those tasks efficiently without knowing what the student does and does not know. If you wish to save time on that task, you can always contact me, and we can arrange for your student to complete the diagnostic test BEFORE our first session so I can review the areas in which the student has trouble.
