Suggestions for writing Open-Ended and College-Specific Essays. What I mean by "open-ended" essays are questions such as "Write an essay on any topic you choose. You may submit an essay you wrote for a class, etc." College-Specific essay questions are questions such as "Why do you want to attend this college?"
Suggestions for writing UC Application Essays - the application deadline is coming soon (November 30, if not sooner - check the deadline yourself - don't trust me!). What you can trust, however, is my advice on how to answer the UC Application Essay prompts.
Here are my suggestions on how to answer the Common Application essays. Many US colleges use the Common Application, so it's useful to know how to approach these essay questions. If YOU have questions, feel free to contact me!
College Board SAT Practice Test 8 reading test, done in 65 minutes. This video teaches how to use factoring (e.g., prime factorizations, finding the greatest common factor of two numbers) to solve questions involving the division of large numbers without using a calculator, as when such problems are found on the "no calculator" section of the SAT. Older viewers may recall learning this trick for the SAT when calculators simply were not allowed on the SAT. This is also the same math you'll find on the GMAT, GRE, CHSPE, CAHSEE, CBEST, CSET, and other standardized tests that test you at a high school level.
Here's Section 3 of an actual sample SAT from the College Board website (Test 5 of the tests you can download as ZIP files containing .pdfs). I do it in "real time," meaning the time you'd actually have to do it on the SAT, and review the answers I got wrong (yes, I got 3 wrong because of stupid errors!). Here's the video. Hope this helps!
